Our Mission

To sow and cultivate a life of faith and service in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, founded upon the Bible, the Living Word of God, with the love and guidance of the Holy Spirit.

The Sunday Experience

South Pasadena Christian Church is a small and vibrant church that has been around since 1906. Well, none of us here now have been. And actually, about half of our members are relatively new to the area and the church. We are excited to be together and look forward to gathering on Sundays. This may be the first thing you notice.

You may also notice that we are a diverse community. We are diverse in so many ways: age, ethnicity, income, church background, ability to tell jokes, and years as a Christian. Even though we are varied, when we gather together on Sundays we do it as one family of faith.

The Sunday service is not a production meant to entertain anyone. It is not geared to any one age group or social class. It is not a "who's who?" or "who's got new shoes?" Instead, it is a time for us, as Christians, to remember and proclaim what God has done, is doing, and will do in the world through Jesus.

During our gathering together, we sing contemporary songs and hymns, we welcome the children, we pray together, and we read from the Bible. We also share in Communion every week as an expression of our shared faith and unity in Jesus.

We seek to preach the story of God from the Bible. We ask hard questions and attempt to offer straight answers. We take seriously the call to bear witness to God's redemption of the world through Jesus.

If you are looking to (re)connect to a church community that doesn't expect you to have everything figured out, but will accept you, encourage you, and walk with you as you mature in your faith, then we invite you to join us. We would benefit greatly from walking with you.

Come join us on a Sunday morning!

Our denomination, the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), was founded on the Allegheny frontier in the early 1800s and reached California in the gold rush years of the 1850s. The Reverend Sumner T. Martin, minister of the Pasadena Christian Church, and J. Walter Johnson, a gospel singer, held a series of evangelistic meetings in the Opera House Building. Read more.
